What Do Businesses Believe In?

When we meet someone for the first time, we’re not just meeting that person, but everyone who had a hand in creating that person. We’re meeting their parents, preachers, teachers, siblings, aunt Fran, a kid who beat them up in the 5th grade, first crush, favorite singer….everyone & everything that has collectively made evolving impressions on that person strong enough to create a working belief system. And that system is typically a person's fiercest and most passionate truth. Business is no different. We’re not just meeting a logo or jingle, but everyone & everything that collectively created that business: employees, partners, vendors, customers both good and bad. But instead of a passionate truth via a strong belief system, businesses typically opt to center their core being around a mission statement…the “what we do” over the “why we do.” Let it be known that successful companies do both. As a population, we all believe we should be treated with respect, and that our tomorrow should be better than our today. If that’s all we have to go on, let’s at least make sure we’re putting those beliefs into action. Are we treating our employees with respect? Are they treating our customers with respect? Are both groups paying that respect back to us, which in turn is given back to them, and so on? Consistency is a key precursor to growth. More specifically, businesses may say they believe in offering the lowest prices, or providing the best service, but often fail to demonstrate why. Is it because customers are people who should feel confident & uplifted, instead of worried and remorseful?  Is it because a positive interaction between customers & staff removes stress, enhances a mood, and reaffirms that the right choice was made? Do we believe our customers have a right to feel a certain way? Be treated a certain way? If so, which way and why? Is that our passionate truth? All in all, it’s worth asking:

  1. What do we believe in?
  2. What do our employees believe in?
  3. What do our customers believe in?
  4. Do these belief systems match up?

Develop a living & breathing belief system – a core philosophy centered on your most fierce & passionate truth – then watch growth follow. I believe it’ll happen. Do you? Lori

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
